Cherkizovo Group (Cherkizovo, Petelinka and Pava-Pava brands) for the ninth time topped the list of country’s largest meat producers in an annual ranking put together by Agroinvestor, a leading industry publication. In 2023, the Company produced 1.35 million tonnes of live-weight meat, up 12% year-on-year.
According to Rosstat data cited by Agroinvestor, total output of livestock and poultry by all Russian manufacturers amounted to 16.5 million tonnes of live weight in 2023, up 2% year-on-year. The share of top 25 meat producers included in the ranking grew by some 1.7% to 59.7%. They account, inter alia, for almost 69% of the poultry and 69.4% of the pork market.
For the ninth consecutive year (as long as the Agroinvestor rating exists), Cherkizovo Group has ranked first in terms of total meat production volumes. In 2023, the Company produced 1.35 million tonnes of live-weight (1.03 million tonnes of slaughter-weight) meat, representing about 8% of the country's total meat output.
This includes 986,000 tonnes of broiler meat, up 17.8% year-on-year. The increase was primarily attributable to capacity expansion in Bashkortostan and the Chelyabinsk Region, where new assets were acquired at the end of 2022. In addition, the Company converted one of its turkey sites into a chicken site in 2023, so the total turkey output decreased by 31.3% to 68,800 tonnes.
In 2023, Cherkizovo Group also produced 296,700 tonnes of pork, an increase of 15.1% year-on-year. The growth was due to both investment in the existing facilities and production expansion through the acquisition of pig farming assets (Vishnevsky Genetics and Breeding Center) in the Orenburg Region in late 2022.
In 2024, Cherkizovo Group intends to further increase its meat output through both organic development of its assets in the Central Federal District and expansion of the facilities acquired in Bashkortostan and the Chelyabinsk Region at the end of 2022.
