Cherkizovo Group to start product exports to Malaysia

Cherkizovo Group, Russia’s largest meat producer, is getting ready to commence exports of poultry meat to Malaysia. As part of the preparations, the Company recently passed two certification audits to ensure compliance with standards of the Malaysian Halal regulator, JAKIM.

In June, auditors from Gulftic-ICSC Halal and JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) visited two production sites of Cherkizovo Group – Vasilyevskaya poultry farm in the Penza Region, which engages in broiler slaughtering and processing, and Compass Foods in the Tula Region, a poultry processing facility. Both sites had already been certified to the Halal standards of the Middle East regulators.

Holding a Halal compliance certificate from Malaysia is a mandatory requirement for exporting poultry meat to the country. The auditors assessed the process quality and food safety at both facilities during production, packaging, freezing, and storage of products, as well as compliance with the applicable religious requirements during the slaughter. Both sites successfully passed the audit, which was conducted as part of the Gulftic-ICSC Halal accreditation by JAKIM.

“Since Cherkizovo Group’s facilities already supply their Halal products to the Persian Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the auditor revealed no instances of non-compliance. The teams at both facilities put a lot of effort into bringing the production processes in line with stringent international Halal standards, which was demonstrated to our guests,” said Natalia Bartnovskaya, Head of Export Development at Trading Company Cherkizovo.

Cherkizovo Group is looking forward to the commencement of exports of Russian poultry meat to Malaysia in 2023 and is prepared to offer Malaysian partners its poultry meat products for distribution across all channels.

Cherkizovo Group’s product exports increased by 25% in volume terms, surpassing 100,000 tonnes in 2022, and are expected to add another 10% this year.

The Group's portfolio of halal products includes Latifa, Dajajti, and Krasnobor. Latifa is a halal poultry brand. Founded in 2015, it was not only intended for Muslim consumers, but also for a wider group of customers focused on high-quality products. To tap into the export markets of Islamic countries, we have developed a line of halal products under the Dajajti (My Chicken) brand. In 2022, the Group also began exporting Krasnobor halal turkey meat to retailers in Saudi Arabia.
