TAMBOV, Sept. 11 — RIA Novosti. The first phase of the Tambov Turkey complex has been put into operation, a spokesman for the regional administration told RIA Novosti.
The first phase of the complex located in Pervomaisky District includes four rearing buildings, 12 fattening buildings and a modern hatchery with capacity of nearly six million eggs per year.
According to an RIA source, the complex is being built as part of an international project to produce turkey meat launched by Cherkizovo Group in 2012 in partnership with the Spanish Grupo Fuertes — the largest turkey producer in Spain — and with the support of the administration of Tambov Region. Total investments in the project amount to 7.27 billion roubles, and total production will be 50,000 tonnes of meat per year. The launch of the complex is scheduled for December 2015.
"The social benefits for Tambov Region are undeniable. When this project reaches full capacity, there will be a feed mill, a grain storage facility and slaughtering facility. It will employ about one thousand people at salaries higher than average for the economy, which is stated in the investment agreements. This means jobs for both residents of Pervomaisky District and nearby districts. Taxes to the budget are also very important. Tambov Region has already invested nearly 1.7 billion roubles from its budget as part of its commitment to provide transport and logistics infrastructure for the project. But that's not the end of it; let's move on," acting Governor of Tambov Region Alexander Nikitin said at the opening of the first phase.
